Why Marriage Isn’t Part of My Life Plan — and What I Want Instead

Before you start judging me, I want to clarify that I’m not against marriage. Love is a beautiful part of life, and reaching the destination of marriage can feel extraordinary. I, too, wish to embrace this incredible experience — but I have my reasons for choosing a different path.

A man dreaming to get married but cannot because of his fears.

Marriage isn’t just a part of life — it’s a life in itself. It gives you the comfort of knowing you’re not alone, that someone is always out there for you. But have you ever wondered: is that person truly with you by choice? Do they really love you?

Whenever I face the mirror, I ask myself — why would someone choose to love me? I’m not charming, rich, or influential. In fact, I often see myself as opportunistic and selfish.

I don’t live in a fantasy where love conquers all. People have preferences — some want a good-looking partner, others value wealth. I fit neither. Forget looks and money — I don’t even carry the confidence to stand tall.

Now, let’s talk about the biggest factor — “THE SOCIETY AND LAW AND ORDER”.

Before getting married, you need to ensure you can protect her — because crimes against women are rising every day. But let’s be honest: in this country, law and order feel more like a toy for politicians and a punishment for the poor. You might think I’m being too negative, but let’s face the facts.

In January this year, a police officer harassed a woman cop — inside the very police station they worked at (source). Funny? No, it’s shameful. It makes me question how I could bring a woman into my life when I can’t even guarantee her dignity’s safety.

Another case? A DSP-rank officer — a high-ranking position in India — sexually assaulted a woman when she sought help. He took her to the bathroom and tried to force himself on her (source). Doesn’t that boil your blood?

Or how about the woman beaten behind closed doors while her son stood outside, begging the police to stop? They even called her a wh*** (source). How can I believe my wife would be safe in a system like this?
I wouldn’t be surprised if that boy grows up with hatred in his heart, seeking revenge on the very system that failed him. When you witness such cruelty firsthand, how do you not carry that rage? It’s easy to call people criminals — but no one talks about what made them one.

I could list countless more cases, yet law enforcement remains indifferent. Justice only arrives when protests make national headlines — otherwise, it’s a distant dream.

So tell me — with all this happening, do you still expect me to get married? If I’m walking with my wife and a group of goons harasses her, what are my options? Fight them? No.
Call the police? You’ve read the stories above — that’s a joke.

The only option left? Keep it in you and feel helpless forever.

No thanks. I’d rather stay alone, smiling at Instagram reels of people getting married and becoming parents than spend my nights drowning in helplessness. Yes, I’m weak — and so is our law and order.”
